why you should use our webmaster service

So What Exactly is a Webmaster?

The Power Comms Webmaster Service - Our Definition

Apparently the term “Webmaster” started with Google – although this is not 100% confirmed.

Wikipedia has a good stab at explaining it – see their article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webmaster

And we like the above explanatory Video from You Tube.

Our Power Comms Webmaster Service is designed to provide simple sites with the basic SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) needed to function on the Internet.

Put simply, SEO makes it easier for the Search Engines (Google Yahoo Bing etc.) to understand what your site is all about, and  this will result in giving the site-owner every opportunity for his or her site to be noticed, or become more visible on the Internet.

Business Websites

Even if your business requires people to actually visit your office or studio – for example, service oriented businesses like accountants, dentists etc – the reasoning below still applies.

If you think about your site as a modern day shop, the equivalent to the High Street property shop front, then you need people not only to look in the “shop window” (the site itself) but be sufficiently interested to come inside and look around.

To achieve this, there are two main requirements.

1. Make Your Website Visible

The first requirement for any website is to be visible.

With the example of a High Street shop, this would mean where it is situated – or as they say in the Property Market “Position, Position, Position”. The better the Position or Location of the shop, the more people (footfall) you would expect to visit the shop and hopefully make purchases.

With the Internet, there is much more of an opportunity to get the “footfall” without paying a premium price for a High Street location.

So how do people find your site on the Internet?

This opportunity is controlled by companies like Google (the biggest Search Engine) and others such as Bing and Yahoo.

But they are not going to put your site on their front page for search enquiries unless your site meets their “guidelines”, and if those guidelines are not met, your site will be consigned to the backstreets – in other words, pages 2, 3, 4 etc where potential buyers of your products are unlikely to find your site at all.

2. Make Your Website Interesting

The second requirement is for the site to be interesting enough and relevant enough to the potential customer so that he or she will spend some time “having a look” – in other words, a nice shop window.

This does not mean that the website needs to be especially “jazzy “or modern or advanced, but it does mean that the potential customer needs to want to have a closer look.

There are many different examples of attractive but simple working websites – you will have experienced this yourself when browsing the web or carrying out a Search.

To persuade the customer to look into your “shop” you will need a nice “shop window” and a “pleasant interior” – this requirement applies equally to an actual shop and a virtual shop (internet website)

Finally, the actual content and layout of the site – how you present your product(s) or services to customers, description, special offers, information, help, easy payment processes etc. etc. is paramount to the success of any online business.

What can I expect from the Power Comms Webmaster Service?

Now that we have defined what we think are the two main requirements for a successful site, this is how we can assist you.

Visibility

This is where we can provide most of the assistance, particularly in making sure that your site conforms to the “guidelines” for Search Engines as we mention above.

  1. Page Structure. One of the most important areas is “page structure” – each page of your website needs to conform to certain rules laid down by companies like Google. For example, Page Titles and Headers and the correct display of any Videos and Images (photos etc) are extremely important, and we can make sure this applies.
  2. Page Information By this we do not mean page content – although the Search Engines do prefer a minimum “word count” for pages. We refer to the information required by the Search Engine to understand what your page is about – remember that Search Engines are not human (well not yet, anyway!) and they do not “read” the page content in the same way as a human being. So we can make sure that Schemas are added to your site to convey this information.
  3. Basic Keywords As you know when you search for something on the internet, you enter a keyword or phrase into the search box of whichever Browser you happen to be using. The Browser Search Engine (Chrome for example, the Google Browser) then displays a list of options (keyword “matches”) which can consist of a great many pages: most people don’t look beyond Page 1, which is of course where you want your website to be! If the searcher does not find what he/she is looking for, he/she will amend or clarify further what they are interested in which means a more specific search (in fact, longer “keywords” are more important – especially where Voice Search is used). So we will make sure that the Basic Keywords for your product or Service are included in your website page structure.

Interesting

Most of the responsibility for this lies with you, the site owner, but there are some basic areas where we can help.

  1. New Site. If you use our Website Creator Service  you will have a basic and very simple 4/5 page website linked to your Domain Name, built with WordPress with working menus and a colour scheme and Theme which we will set as the building block for your site – from this basic structure you can then add pages as required and personalise your site. Standard Pages provided by us in the site design would include: Home Page, Product (or Service) Page, About Page, Terms and Conditions Page, and a Privacy Policy Page, the last two pages being necessary for all commercial sites. We would apply the Webmaster Service to that site at an agreed price.
We are also quite happy in principle to take on an existing site and apply the Webmaster Service to that site, subject to agreement.
  2. Existing Site If you have an existing site we will look at the site and advise you and/or make recommendations as to how or if we can help. Please use our Contact Form to start this process.
  3. Content. By this we mean what the visitor to your site will see and what information you provide. We can help by providing suitable “templates” for pages – for example, you may need to display a list of products or provide a number of images and some useful videos to explain your product/service.
  4. Third Party Expertise Our primary goal is to provide you with a simple site which has SEO “built in” – SEO is our area of expertise. If your site needs additional expertise, we can recommend third party professionals (designers, coders etc) to help provide the solution. We can assist with negotiations with any “third party” but any contract for this work will be between you and the third party.

So What WIll this Webmaster Service cost?

Free Consultation

Because Websites differ in size (number of pages) and structure, this is not an exact science. An existing site may need a radical change to add SEO – it also depends on the size of the site (how many pages, and how many images for example).

Our philosophy is first to gain your trust, and then to work closely with you on a “one to one” basis in the early stages.

So we offer a FREE Consultation which starts when you complete our Contact Form. Here we will need basic information from you, including your chosen domain name (if you have one) and explaining your situation, product/service, your plans and your goals.

"Page 1 on Google Guaranteed" ??

If you see a Heading like this – or an Advert – our advice is to be extremely careful.

There are some genuine Web or Online Marketing specialists around, including the excellent Neil Patel who has certainly been instrumental in helping us progress.

But the reality is that achieving Page 1 on Google depends not only on having your site properly optimized (SEO)  but also on the Search Term or Keyword applied in the Search. After all, there is no point in ranking Number 1 in a Google Search for a keyword or search phrase that no-one uses!
